The Rapid Response Network (RRN)

What is the RRN and how does it work?

The idea is simple: ideally we would have your email address and your cell phone number. When something urgent comes up (see below for examples) we would:

  • Send you an email with all of the details and the action requested (and any documentation, if necessary)
  • Then we’ll send you a text message alerting you to the email and summarizing the issue and its urgency.

If we lack either the email or the phone number (the actual case for many of you) we will do the best we can with what we have to work with. Here’s why you will continue to hear requests from us to fill in the blanks of the missing information (cell or email):

  • If we only have your email – the simple truth is that email is a fading method of communication. Most of us check it because we HAVE to and will often put off checking it. And unless the subject line seems especially important we may just delete the email. Right? So that combination of text leading us to the email is really quite important.
  • If we can only text you – many times the urgent items will be will be legislative in nature. These kinds of items tend to be information heavy. Bill summaries, links to various sites an resources, talking or writing scripts and so on. Trying to put all of this into a chat can be challenging and cause the text to be ridiculously long. We will post the information on the website and Facebook group page, but the personal email is direct and best.
